Members of the Committee:
I am a [California-born adoptee][birthparent who relinquished a child for adoption][California resident][supporter of adoption reform and adoptee rights]. I write to register my opposition to AB1302, a bill that perpetuates discrimination against adopted people.
AB1302 is about a person’s own birth record. It is not about adoption records, court records, or agency records. It is a human right to know who you are, where you came from, and to understand the full scope of your heritage and culture. Because AB1302 does not restore a right all California-born adult adopted people once had— to request and obtain their own birth records—I register my opposition to the bill.
