Given the uncertain and highly polarized political climate around upcoming elections, we’ve decided to pause further in-person conference programming until the end of 2024.
Adoptees United has been thrilled to engage in in-person programming with you all! While we’ve been excited to kick off our first-ever conference series this year, we’re also mindful of the current moment and what’s happening in our world. After some reflection, our Board believes the best way to support our community is to pause our in-person conference programming and serve as a resource hub during the election season.
We’re all concerned about the political landscape and what it means for our country’s future. While we don’t have all the answers, our board and staff are politically engaged. Upcoming elections will no doubt impact future policies and state and federal legislation. With crucial issues like the Adoptee Citizenship Act, a surge in baby box bills, and the ongoing work around original birth certificates and identity documents, we can’t afford to sit on the sidelines.
With that in mind, Adoptees United has made the difficult, but necessary, decision to pause planned conference programming through the end of 2024. We will continue to host virtual events and also plan virtual happy hours where we can gather to organize and discuss our thoughts as the election unfolds (we will also continue plans for hybrid Wikipedia edit-a-thons). We know we’re heading into uncertain times, and our hope is to create spaces for us to come together and find ways for our community to move forward, no matter what happens in November.
Thanks!
The AU Board
