In documenting the history of adoption and the lives of adopted people, what are the most meaningful artifacts, whether they are personal, collective, or comprehensive?
In a recent AU newsletter I asked the following questions to adopted people in an effort to understand the scope of an adoptee-centered and object-oriented history of adoption. Here’s what I asked in the newsletter, and I hope you can answer these questions for yourself and others.
- What artifacts have you collected or want to find? Or not want to find at all?
- Is there one “relic” or artifact that you are looking for—or have already found?
- What do objects or items from your adoption or your pre-adoption life mean to you? What does it say about adoption?
